House Boat Rentals on Lake Mead for Any Season
Houseboat rentals are a wonderful way to experience the four seasons on Lake Mead. Most think of Lake Mead only as a summer destination, but that’s not the only time to visit. Unlike many national parks, which close down for the winter, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area is open year-round and so are houseboat rentals.
Summer, our peak season, is a great time to catch some rays under the sun. You can also take to the water for a swim that’s a perfect 80 degrees; take this refreshing swim while surrounded by the raw, natural beauty of mountains, coves and beaches.
What you may not realize is that many of the activities you enjoy in the summer months apply to other seasons, as well. These include most watersports like jet skiing, water skiing, kayaking and fishing. You can even dive and explore the area during the colder months, provided you are well equipped with the proper gear. There are amazing things to see beneath the surface, with over 2,000 wrecks, underwater mountains, cliffs and caverns, and the famous Boeing B-29 Superfortress that crashed in the lake in 1948.
The non-summer months also have a unique appeal. Fall is the best season for camping and hiking, the days are still long and the weather is cool. So, in addition to enjoying house boat rentals, you can take some time out to do some inland exploration.
If you’re an expert or budding ornithologist for instance, winter might be your best bet for enjoying houseboat rentals on Lake Mead due to the winter migration for birds from the North. Bald Eagles in particular nest during the winter months in the Overton Arm section of Lake Mead each year. Over 100 were counted in January 2015 alone.
