Be Part of the First Annual Kids Casting Contest

This isn’t just another day at the lake, it’s the first-ever Kids Casting Contest at Lake Mead, designed to introduce the next generation to fishing, outdoor adventure, and the thrill of the cast.

Whether your child is brand new to fishing or already loves the water, this event is built to be fun, safe, and unforgettable. All registered children receive a free gift bag, a spooled fishing pole to use for the competition, and a lunch voucher.

Schedule of Events

Arrival: 10am

  • Register in the breezeway of the red-roofed building at the top of the ramp
  • Note, this is a fee-free day at Lake Mead National Park so park entry is free!

Practice: 10am-noon
Contest: Begins at Noon

  • Begins at noon and will last for about 2 hours total
  • There will be no hooks, only weights on the poles with a small bobber for visual reference.
  • Each participant will line up down at the main dock ,
  • As we call your number to the platform to perform your cast, you will step up to the casting dock.
  • Based on the total entries, you will get 1-3 chances; that’s 1-3 Casts to see how far you can cast.
  • Contestants will be separated into age groups. There will be 10 First place prizes for each age 5-15

Awards Ceremony: 3pm

  • A houseboat will be setup as the Award Boat. Kids will get to go on top deck to announce

Raffle: 3:30-4pm

  • We will be selling raffle tickets to pull at the end of the awards show.
  • All proceeds will go to buying lifejackets for youth

Do kids need fishing experience?

No experience needed—this event is designed for beginners and young adventurers.

Do we need to bring gear?

Spooled poles will be provided to each registered child. Basic instruction and activities will be provided.

What are the prizes?

  • A free OKUMA fishing pole pre-spooled to use for the competition

Yes, a parent/guardian waiver will be required at check-in.

Is there food available?

Snacks and refreshments will be available onsite. Free lunch voucher for contestants available from the Grill.
