Celebrate the National Park Services’ Centennial on Lake Mead
Lake Mead’s 80th
Lake Mead celebrates an anniversary this year, too, as it’s been 80 years since the National Park Service started administering Lake Mead in 1936. Get on the lake and experience if for yourself with 110 miles long with 550 miles of shoreline to enjoy. When you rent a houseboat, you’ll have access to all that Lake Mead has to offer.
While on your Lake Mead houseboat vacation, you might be interested in spending a little time exploring the lake’s history. You could even do your homework ahead of time by checking out Lake Mead’s Virtual Museum. You can learn about Lake Mead’s history and see historical photos, including some of the famous town of St. Thomas before it went underwater. As it turns out, the remains of St. Thomas are above water again so you can visit the ghost town. Having the backstory behind St. Thomas and other interesting facts will help make your exploration even more interesting.
Had your fill of history? Then it’s back to the lake! Lake Mead is a perfect place to rent a houseboat and there you can fish, swim, barbecue, and depending on the houseboat you rent, relax in a hot tub on deck as you gaze out at the lake and mountains in the distance.
